It is people who build factories, structure organisations and manage them successfully. Human Resource Management, latest nomenclature used to denote Personnel Management, is a study about people in organisations - how they are hired, trained, compensated, motivated and maintained.

It is people who possess skills, abilities and aptitudes that offer competitive edge to a firm. It is only human resource that is capable of deciding, implementing and controlling activities. No computer can substitute human brain, no machines can run without human interventions and no organisation has mandate to exist if it cannot serve people's needs. Human Resource Management  

How an idea is conceived by an entrepreneur, how building is constructed and machinery installed, how needed inputs are marshalled and put to use and how goods and services are produced, is a saga which is no less thrilling and exciting than a general leading army to victory in a war or an invention made by a scientist. Human Resource Management as stated above, offers a comprehensive picture about the people in organisations. 

Every organisation wants their employees to work smarter and not harder, because machines are meant to work harder and humans smarter. In today's workforce, the role of Human Resource Manager is more important than ever because companies and organizations know how essential employee selection and satisfaction is to productivity. Choosing a wrong candidate for the wrong job is like choosing a wrong spouse where you can put in years of OK relationship but it is never going to be a spectacular relationship. The important connection between employers, employees and jobs is the domain of Human Resource Managers.
